PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:  Staff will update to Frederick County Board of Education (Board) regarding the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY2024) Frederick County Public Schools’ (FCPS) operating budget.

 

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:  At the May 17th Board meeting, the Board approved several adjustments to the FY2024 operating budget.  At the June 7th meeting, staff will provide an update on the Frederick County Government’s appropriation to FCPS.  Staff will also provide recommendations for balancing the FY2024 operating budget.

 

If needed, the Board is scheduled to continue the FY2024 operating budget discussion at the June 14, 2023 Board meeting.  The final approval is currently scheduled for the June 28, 2023 Board meeting.  By law, FCPS must submit a balanced budget to the State of Maryland by June 30, 2023.

Accept the FY2024 Operating Budget Variance as is, with the additional revenues of $16,076,061 and the transfer of $5,000,000 to the self-insurance fund for a revised variance of $22,571,884.

Accept $21,951,398 of staff's recommended budget cuts in the following nine areas: Reversals and Adjustments, Enrollment/Growth, Inflationary & Mandatory, Staff Resources, Continuation/Expansion of Programs, Strategic Replacement Cycles, Operational Needs, Blueprint for Maryland's Future and the Salary Resource Pool, leaving a remaining deficit of $540,486, the amount that is in Student Resources.
