PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION: The Board of Education (BOE) will discuss the Fiscal Year 2019 Operating Budget.
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY: At the May 9, 2018 BOE meeting, the Board discussed the FY19 current budget variance of $3.3M. During the meeting, the Board approved three changes to the budget to decrease the variance. The current budget variance is $1.67M. The following reductions were approved:
- Eliminate the additional OPEB contribution - $1.0M
- Eliminate the expansion of the International Baccalaureate Program - $40,000
- Reduce the Technology Infrastructure Budget - $594,163
The purpose of today’s meeting is to consider additional changes to the operating budget. Staff will be available to offer additional information and for questions.
The BOE is scheduled to discuss the FY19 Operating Budget at the May 16 and May 23 meetings. Actions will be taken at these meetings to balance the FY19 Operating Budget. Final approval of the FY19 Operating Budget is scheduled for the June 6, 2018 at a special BOE meeting.

Defer the ombudsman position to be filled by January 2019, in the amount of $57,500.
Ms. Schaefer amended her motion to reduce the $115,00 for an ombudsman to $57,500 in order to have that position start as close to the middle of the next fiscal year. Ms. Cusimano seconded the motion.
